CBSE Official Schedule for Practical Exams, Project Work, and Internal Assessment (2025–26)
CBSE has officially released the schedule and crucial guidelines for conducting Practical Examinations, Project Work, and Internal Assessments for the upcoming 2025–26 academic session. Schools must strictly comply with these dates and procedures to ensure a fair and streamlined evaluation process.
Conduct Dates for Practical Examinations
It is mandatory for all schools to complete the practicals, projects, and internal assessments within the specified windows. There will be absolutely no extension of these dates.
(As communicated via circular No. Coord/Winter Bound/Practical/2025-26/ dated 16/10/2025)
Importance of Practical & Internal Assessments
These assessments are fundamental components of the curriculum, designed not just for grading, but for the holistic development of students' skills and continuous evaluation. They focus on:
- Application of Concepts to real-world scenarios
- Development of Laboratory Skills
- Research Abilities and data handling
- Problem-Solving proficiency
- Creativity and Presentation skills
- Regularity and Class Engagement throughout the year
Batch and Group Size Guidelines (CBSE Practical Examinations 2025–26)
To ensure efficiency, fairness, and proper execution, CBSE has provided clear instructions for forming student batches and conducting assessments:
Batch Formation
- Schools must form batches of 30 students per subject.
- The assessment for each batch of 30 must be conducted together for proper coordination and subsequent mark uploading.
- Crucially, batches can ONLY be created after receiving the details of the External Examiner from CBSE.
Examiner Confirmation
Before proceeding, schools must confirm the availability of the External Examiner and the Observer (if one has been appointed). Once this is confirmed, the examiner details are locked in the CBSE system, and the assessment must be conducted exclusively by this assigned examiner.
Sub-group Handling for Lab Management
To manage lab crowding and ensure better, more focused evaluation, the batch of 30 students can be divided into two sub-groups of 15 each:
- Subgroup 1 (15 students): Engages in the Lab work (performing the experiment).
- Subgroup 2 (15 students): Engages in the Pen-and-paper work (writing the procedure, analysis, etc.).
- The groups then switch roles.
The entire batch of 30 students must be assessed and their marks uploaded on the same day.
Components of Internal Assessment (2025–26)
The internal assessment mark distribution is clearly defined to promote continuous evaluation:
Class X (Total 20 Marks)
- Periodic Tests – 5 marks
- Multiple Assessments – 5 marks
- Subject Enrichment Activities – 5 marks
- Portfolio – 5 marks
Class XII (Varies by Subject)
| Assessment Type | Total Marks |
|---|---|
| Science Practicals | 30 marks |
| Computer Science / Informatics Practices (IP) | 30 marks |
| Commerce & Humanities Projects | 20 marks |
| Applied / Mathematics Core | 20 marks |
| Languages | 20 marks |
| Physical Education | 30 marks |
Guidance on Project Work
A high-quality project is essential and should demonstrate:
- Originality and thorough Research & Content
- Data Analysis and interpretation skills
- Effective Presentation & Viva skills
- Neat and comprehensive File/Report Preparation
Projects are designed to help students build critical analytical and communication skills, which are vital for success in higher education.
Key Responsibilities for Schools
To ensure successful completion of the assessments, schools must:
- Conduct all practicals only within the CBSE-notified dates.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and uphold lab safety protocols.
- Ensure all lab equipment is fully functional.
- Upload marks on the CBSE portal on time for every batch.
- Uphold the highest standards of fairness and transparency.
Tips for Students to Excel
Students can maximize their scores in these assessments by taking proactive steps:
- Ensure practical files are completed neatly and accurately.
- Understand the concepts behind all experiments, not just the procedure.
- Revise formulas and applications thoroughly in preparation for the viva voce.
- Submit original and well-presented project work.
- Keep portfolios updated and comprehensive throughout the year.
- Maintain consistent performance and engagement in class.
