H. C. Verma
Harish Chandra Verma (born 8 April 1952) is an Indian experimental physicist and professor emeritus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His field of research is nuclear physics. He has authored several school, undergraduate and graduate textbooks, the most popular being the two-volume Concepts of Physics. He has co-founded Shiksha Sopan, a social upliftment organization for economically weaker children living near the campus of IIT Kanpur. He has been awarded the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puruskar by the Bihar state government. In 2020, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award. Verma was born in Darbhanga, Bihar. His father was a teacher in Samastipur. After he passed high school, he obtained his B. Sc. degree at the Patna Science College. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
IIT Kanpur
Verma joined IIT Kanpur in 1994 as an assistant professor. Here he pursued research in experimental nuclear physics. He has published 139 research papers. He retired on 30 June 2017.
